I resisted adding “gravel” as a category for a long time. “If it’s got drop bars, it’s a road bike” was my ‘dogma’, if you will. But there’s no denying it, gravel is a real ‘thing’ There is a lot of common ground between road biking and gravel riding but the gulf is wide between the extremes of pro road racing and just riding back roads for the fun of it. This nicely produced feature from Shimano about Canadian super-hero Svein Tuft highlights that chasm and makes a nice first video for the category.
(I sometimes wonder what kind of Canada we’d have if Svein Tuft—or Charlie Angus—were Prime Minister.)
