Scotland has produced some pretty great riders and short cycling films. The key to an engaging cycling video, professional or amateur, is you to start with a love of the bike. This loving tribute to a Surly Pugsly certainly has that, but it also has a great soundtrack and benefits from some great Scottish scenery as well. Based on the special flask-carrying cage on his Pugsley, it’s safe to say a bit of Scottish whiskey was involved too.
It’s fair to call YouTuber coastkid71 an amateur—his page reads “selfmade fun films with cheap cameras”—but his video is a winner. Or at least close—this three minute edit of an original 9 minute film won runner-up at the inaugural Tweedlove Cycling Film Festival in Scotland.
